Nurturing Critical Thinking in Argumentative Writing



This study was qualitative research investigating the implementation of critical thinking in argumentative writing. 34 participants who were taking English for Professional Purpose class in Banking and Finance Management major, Faculty of Economics and Business, Perbanas Institute were asked to write an argumentative essay during midterm-exam in April 2021. Critical thinking taxonomy from Stapleton was used to measure the critical thinking in students’ argumentative essay. The result of the test revealed weak performance of most students in argumentative writing which was in line with less implementation of critical thinking in their writing.
