Abstract

Identifying a research design is a critical part of any research. It is a conceptual structure on how research is conducted. It constitutes a plan for research. Without a proper research design, it will be difficult for research to meet its objective (s). Thus, understanding research design will be important to address issues being research correctly. Misapplication of research design will render the research inaccurate and as a result unreliable. In view of this, the current study aims to review a variety of research designs available in the world of research and how they are applied in undertaking research. The methodology used in this research review is by studying as many research designs as possible. The outcome of the study shows that there are at least four methods of research designs. These are: (i) qualitative method; (ii) quantitative method; (iii) mixed method; and (iv) multimethod and mixed method.
